Weight loss is such a huge topic regardless if you’re talking about losing a few pounds to look good for the summer or hundreds to cope with failing health issues because of obesity. Whatever the reason, it isn’t just about diet though. There are lots – too many most would say – of diets to choose from, and unfortunately many were developed because of conflicting scientific and medical thoughts. It is confusing.

What isn’t confusing though is that our relationship with food is complicated. It’s emotional and in some respects learned when we were growing up from our parents, who passed it on from their parents, etc. I’d argue a simple diet of protein and vegetables small portions should support most peoples needs. However, could most people stick with just that? While my weight loss programs don’t dictate any one diet – anything reasonable will suffice – there are staple things that should be included and excluded if you will – like limit the process and/or natural sugars.

But getting to your ideal weight or right size as I call it is one outcome. In some restricts weight loss should be achievable for most of us, but then that hard part comes – staying at your right weight. Not so easy. Because maintaining your right size requires long-term commitment to changing your food choices. And this is where hypnosis comes into play because a diet is just a diet and what you eat is a habit, and you can easily slip back into poor eating and portion sizes quickly and put on all the pounds, and more, you lost on that wonderful special diet program.

So, the articles you’ll find here cover an array of topics around food and weight loss and will give you a solid foundation in the things to watch out for as you embark on your own weight loss program.

Why Most Weight Loss Programs Fail

Most weight loss programs fail because they over promise and don’t tackle all the elements for weight loss to be permanent. Weight loss plans can take different forms. Some are just diets while others are a combination of dieting and physical activity. Weight loss plans that promise you’ll lose 15 to 20 pounds in two weeks (or worse, in one week!) are unrealistic. While some plans can produce amazing results at end of first week of plan this is what I call the “gung-ho” effect and caused by being enthusiastic and totally compliant with the demands of the program. Then week two and three comes and life begins to get in the way and your resolve is tested and maybe you’re not quite so compliant.

Change is Good – You Go First!

Whenever I think about change I’m reminded of a Dilbert cartoon portraying the corporate environment – Change is good – you go first! We can chuckle because we instinctively know what its saying. Change is going to happen – it’s one of the few certain things in life – but we’d much rather it happens to somebody else first than us and leave us alone. Paradoxically, in the corporate world, the people who bring change to others are usually the worse to embrace change. People, generally, fight change, even when it’s good and necessary because it moves us out of our comfort zone.

Why Sticking to 3 Meals a Day Helps Your Weight Loss

A key component of my Virtual Gastric Band and weight loss hypnosis programs is eating until you’re satisfied. This may seem obvious but unfortunately is not the norm. We’ve become use to restaurant-size portions, and these are far from “normal.” In an effort to provide value to customers, restaurants pile up our plates with food, and offer appetizers that would feed most villages in third-world countries. We repeat this with large portion sizes at home and eat until the plate is clear. And if you eat until you’re “full” then this can be too much as we may not receive the signal from the brain we’re “full” until we’re really “stuffed” and feel uncomfortable. 3 meals a day with no snacks is plenty for most of us each day.
